Terry Black’s vs. Franklin BBQ

These are a couple of MUST TRY Texas BBQ spots! I hit both Terry Black’s and Franklin Barbecue, and here’s my honest take: the food at Franklin is incredible—arguably some of the best brisket you’ll ever have. Perfect bark, insanely tender, deep smoke flavor. But after waiting five hours, I’m not sure the difference is big enough to justify the time.

Terry Black’s delivers top-tier Texas BBQ with a fraction of the wait, huge portions, and brisket that’s still outstanding. Flavor-wise, Franklin might edge it out slightly—but we’re talking great vs. great, not great vs. average.

If you’re a hardcore BBQ fan or want the full Austin “I survived the line” experience, Franklin is worth doing once. But if you just want amazing barbecue without losing half your day, Terry Black’s is the smarter move.

Five hours for brisket hits different when you realize you could’ve eaten… and taken a nap.
